my very first solo exhibition

The basic idea for the project was originated from Tactical Media Network’s A4 project2006, which is now lying in ambush. The project was preceded in the course that one hacks into an enterprise or organization’s inner part utilizing reused papers and re-possesses the information. This exhibition stands on extension of individual consideration of the issues. I clearly remember of A4 papers, thrown out from a window of a building and flying in the air one summer day. The papers were floating in the air as if they portrayed something more than things written. There were also people’s speaking as background. The people seemed not to capture the person who had thrown away the paper while busily caught the floating papers. The speaking person could have been deployed with the A4papers in the air. Anyway, people hang around with these crumpled papers and moderate in a file form and save them in a cloth. The papers sometimes play the role of covering burning sunlight. They are extended.

All information in ordinary life becomes moderated in A4risation form. They at the same time modulated and reformed in order to be regularly loaded and communicated. The basic size of A4 paper, regulated in mechanical typewriter in the 20th century is defined in a ratio.

 

Hence, if one folds or cuts in two pieces in a method of self-reprinting, a side of smaller rectangular repeats to paralyze to a minor side of the bigger (prior) rectangular. It discovers social and spatial algorithms structure as if it includes geometrical fractal’s continual self similarity.

Various aspects of city life would be collected, moderated and re-intermediated into A4. I suggest an assumption that could be a certain point for understanding new media genealogy’s complexity. A4 paper becomes the imagined intervention with physicality as a paper. The paper is defined as module or condition, regulation in a modernistic system aiming for efficiency.

We simulate diverse things in a paper form. They could be a paper doll, a paper airplane, a paper house, a paper tiger, a paper cloth and so on. The papers are organized and formed into a symbol with language. At this point, one needs to focus on phase difference of information. The collected information is gotten folded, overlapped, flapped, creased and rolled up. Could anyone clearly know whether his body and consciousness are rolled up or simply the papers are? Indexical plane information approaches to dramatic moment at a certain point. The information never approaches to the signified and leaps over signifying blocks for a new takeoff.

Therefore, the exhibition deals with A4 paper as a basic organization of information itself. The main focus in this project is the course of remediation, defined through impossibility of sorting among mixture of intermediation and reality, overcoming a dichotomy diagram that is called ‘imagination of reality’ or ‘realistic representation of imagination’.
